Spanish artist Inma Barrero presents KomorebiA Meditation on Connection Between Materials, Cultures, and the Spaces We Inhabit. At the heart of Inma Barrero’s philosophy is the act of sewing, binding porcelain together with metal wire as a gesture of unity. Like kintsugi, which honors breakage with gold, Barrero’s practice embraces the beauty of connection and the act of bringing elements together.

Suspended within the tearoom of a historic machiya and extending into the surrounding garden, Barrero’s abstract forms resemble leaves and petals, floating as if caught in a gentle breeze. The porcelain elements are never truly still, shifting with the air, brushing against one another to create a soft chime.

The title Komorebi (木漏れ日)—the light filtering through leaves—captures the fleeting nature of the work. Light and shadow, sound and silence, movement and stillness—these elements create an experience rather than just an object. Komorebi serves as a quiet reminder that nothing exists in isolation. Every fragment—every person, every place—is part of something larger, woven into the fabric of the world.

Barrero was exhibited as a main artist in the 2023 edition of KYOTOGRAPHIE and was invited in 2025 to exhibit her new piece in the main information hub of the festival.
